Keep your valve box lids exposed

The Electric Valves that turn each zone on and off and the low voltage electrical wiring are enclosed in “Valve Boxes”. These valve boxes can be shaped either rectangle or round and are green in color.

After your Irrigation System is installed, the valve boxes are exposed for easy locating and access. It is important for future service of your System to keep the turf from “growing over” the valve box covers. This can happen in a matter of a few weeks during the rapid growth season of lawns.

Once or twice a year it is recommended to trim the turf and soil that begins to cover the lid with a garden tool that can cut around the perimeter of the box. This simple maintenance can save you time and money in the future. It can be very time consuming and costly to locate lost valves and wire splices if one may be in need of service.

There may be a circumstance that a valve box is located in an area that you would want it to become invisible. If this is the case, then take at least three accurate measurements from different permanent fixtures in your yard (such as corner of house, fence post or sidewalk) and make a sketch to keep in your files for future reference.
